Marie L. Dombroski, 85, of Simpson died Thursday at the Jewish Home, Scranton.
She was the widow of Ambrose Dombroski, who died in 2003.
Born in Childs, she was the daughter of the late Andrew & Loretta Qualtiere Ledonne.
She was a 1942 graduate of Benjamin Franklin High School, Carbondale. She had been employed prior to retirement by Carbondale Products, Inc.
She was a member of St. Michael’s Church, Simpson.
She is survived by two sons: Anthony Dombroski, Hanover, MD and Ambrose Dombroski, Scranton; a brother Andrew Ledonne, Greentown; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a brother Joseph and two sisters: Angelo Rose Scorvafava and Teresa Lee.
The funeral will be Saturday from the Joseph W Scotchlas Funeral Home,Inc
621 Main St., Simpson with Mass at 9:30 Am in St. Michael’s Church, 46 Midland St

Ann Marie (Salansky) Berish, 87, of Simpson died Wednesday at home.
She was the widow of Fred M. Berish, who died in 2005.
Born in Union Dale, she was the daughter of the late William & Anna Slebodnick Salansky.
Ann was a member of St. John’s Byzantine Catholic Church, Forest City.
She enjoyed sewing, cooking and working in her garden. Her main joy in life
was doing for others.
She was the matriarch of our family, her spirit will continue to bind us together
as now she has gone to be with our Lord. Her kindness and compassion could not be surpassed. Everyone who knew her loved her. Her memory will always be with us.
May she rest in peace now from all her hard labors and sufferings.
She is survived by two sons: Fred Berish and wife Gail, Wilmore, KY; Thomas Berish and wife Linda, Stafford, VA; a daughter Shirley Lewis, Simpson; a sister Helen Soltis,
Albany, NY; a brother Thomas Salansky and wife Lois, Union Dale; nine grandchildren,
eleven great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by four sisters: Mary Stumpf, Emma O’hop, Evelyn “Sadie” Salansky, Eleanor Sholtis and four brothers: John, William, George and Joseph Salansky and a granddaughter, Terri Lewis.
The funeral will be Monday at 9: 30 AM from the Joseph W Scotchlas Funeral Home, Inc. 621 Main St., Simpson with Office of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in St. John the Baptist Byzantine Catholic Church, 306 Susquehanna St., Forest City by Monsignor John T. Helen C. Beal, 85, of Simpson died Monday at Asera Care Hospice Unit
at Mid Valley Hospital. She was the widow of Stanley Beal, who died in
1962.
She is survived by a son: Stanley Beal, Simpson; a daughter Roseann and
husband Jon Ostrander, Hickory, NC; 4 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren,
and two sisters, nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Friday at 10:00 AM in St. Michael’s Church,
46 Midland St., Simpson by the Rev. Joseph S. Sitko, Pastor. Friends and family will
be received after the Mass.

Anna “Baba” Egnotovich

Anna Egnotovich, 90, of Simpson, entered into eternal rest Wednesday at home.
She was the widow of Michael Egnotovich, who passed away December 14, 1993.
Born in Simpson, she was the daughter of the late Theodore & Mary Kutch
Orinick. She was a graduate of Fell High School, Simpson.
She had been employed over the years by Gentex Corp, and several
area dress factories. She and her husband owned and operated Mike’s Bar in
Simpson for eight years.
She was a communicant of St. Basil’s Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia, Simpson. She had been an active member of the church. She had served on the church committee and was a past committee secretary. She also cooked for several years
at church dinners and banquets. On October 4, 1998, she was awarded the “Gramota Certificate” by Bishop Gabriel of the Arch Dioceses of Eastern Pennsylvania and New York, recognizing her goods works for the church.
Anna was a righteous and religious woman who loved most and tolerated all- never one to hold a grudge. She was an avid quilter, loved crossword puzzles and reading Louis L’Amour Westerns.
Anna loved all children and all children who knew Anna instinctively returned that love tenfold. Not only her grandchildren & great grandchildren call her “Baba”, but all children who came to know and love her called her Baba, also nieces and nephews affectionately called her “Tettie” (aunt).
She is survived by two sons: Michael M.and wife Betty, Vienna, VA; Matthew and wife Sheri, Canal Fulton, Ohio and a daughter and caregiver Mary Ann with whom she resided; three grandchildren: Michael S and wife Claudia Link, Jonathan M. and wife Kelly and Alexa Ann; five great grandchildren: Sophie, Caroline, Juliet, Alexander and Anna, a sister in law Olga Orinik, Binghamton, NY; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by three brothers: John, Samuel and Michael and three sisters: Dorothy & Paraska Orinick and Mary Lutchko.
The funeral will be Monday from the Joseph W Scotchlas Funeral Home, Inc 621 Main St., Simpson with a Requiem Service at 10:00 AM in St. Basil’s Russian Orthodox Church, 33 Midland St., Simpson by the Very Rev. Mitred Archpriest David J. Hritcko

Veronica Irene Madden
Veronica Irene Madden, 77, of Ithaca, NY; died Friday July 9th. She was the wife of James (Joe) Madden for 52 years.
Born in Carbondale, PA, she was the daughter of the late Joseph M. & Mary Lopatofsky Plevyak. She was a graduate of Fell High School, Simpson, PA and Kutztown University. She retired after 32 years of service with the Deposit Central School District, in Deposit, NY, where she was an elementary teacher.
Veronica (Vera) was dearly loved by her immediate and extended family and many close friends. A long-time resident of Deposit, NY, she was a member of St. Joseph’s parish, and as a Kindergarten and First Grade teacher, she touched the lives of many of the village’s residents. Her love of children extended to her many nieces and nephews and most of all, her grandchildren. She enjoyed many trips during her retirement years with her husband, Joe, and often other family members. Vera loved the game of golf and enjoyed playing it with the same league partner for more than thirty years.
Veronica died following a long and brave battle with cancer. During that time she touched the lives of many people who shared that journey with her and cared for her along the way.
She is also survived by three children and their spouses, Mary Jo & Michael Shelton, Farmersville, TX; James J. Madden Jr., Ithaca, NY; Gina M. & Harry Telegadas, Crofton, MD; three brothers: Stanley Plevyak, Reading, PA; Edward Plevyak, Baltimore, MD; Paul Plevyak, Towson, MD; five sisters: Sophy Roman, Southampton, PA; Ann Gadbow, Whitesboro, NY; Helen Derrick, Waymart, PA; Regina Hoffman, Silver Spring, MD; Catherine Fisch, Walnut Creek, CA; five grandchildren Veronica Jo Berry, Michael and Micah Jo Shelton, Farmersville, TX and Joseph and Nicholas Telegadas, Crofton, MD, and more than fifty nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two brothers: Joseph and John Plevyak and a sister: Mary Madges.
The funeral will be Friday July 16th from the Joseph W Scotchlas Funeral Home, Inc. 621 Main St., Simpson, PA, with Mass at 10:30 AM in St. Rose of Lima Church, 6 North Church St., Carbondale, PA, to be celebrated by the Rev. in a A.T.V. accident
Born in Simpson, he is the son of Mario G. and Sharon M. Venis
Cisneros. He attended Carbondale Area School District. He was currently
employed by Millennium Co., Carbondale.
Mario enjoyed spending time with his family, friends and 4 wheeling.
He was looking forward to playing Horseshoes in the 2011 League at
Jake’s.
He is also survived by two brothers: Ramon Cisneros, Simpson;
Bobby Cisneros, Carbondale and a sister: Angela Cisneros, Simpson,
uncles, aunts and cousins.

Harold G. Cooley, 60, of Union Dale died Friday at Community Medical Center, Scranton.
Born in Carbondale, he is the son of George W. Belcher, Uniondale and the
late Annabelle Davis Belcher. He served in the Navy.
He had been self employed prior to his disabilityin the construction and landscape business.
He enjoyed working outdoors and playing high school football in his younger
years. He was a lay minister for a time at the Lake Idlewild Evangelical
Wesleyan Church.
He is also survived by two daughters: Viola and her husband Carlton Henning,
Scranton and Sarah Cooley, Uniondale and her fiancée Thomas Edenfield;
A sister: Betty Tsanos, Carbondale and a grandson William.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 10:00 Am in the Lake Idlewild Evangelical
Wesleyan Church, Uniondale by the Rev. Donald D. Snedeker, Pastor of the
State Line Evangelical Wesleyan Church. Interment in Welsh Hill Cemetery,

Richard M. Bronson, 48, of Dickson City died Friday at Mercy Hospital,
Scranton.
Born in Carbondale, he is the son of Robert L. & Joan E. Viney Bronson,
Carbondale. He was a graduate of Carbondale Area High School and was currently employed by Raymour & Flanigan Furniture, Dickson City.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Carbondale.
He was a social member of the American Legion and the D.A.V. of Dickson City
and was a member of the Moxie Club, Carbondale. Richard was an avid fan
of the Phillies, San Francisco 49er’s and Nascar’s Jimmy Johnson. He also
enjoyed hunting and fishing.
He was known for his infectious smile and was the hot dog chef at his sister
and brother in law’s many picnics and outings. He was a Dad above all others and a brother, none to compare.
He is also survived by three daughters: Megan, Jessica and Haley, and his best friend
Sheila Bronson, all of Jessup; a brother: Robert J. Bronson, Dickson City;
A sister Debra Ann and her husband Christian Benjamin, Factoryville;
A grandson: Ryder Richard Bronson, an uncle, nieces and nephews.

Helen M. Gibney, 47, of Waymart died unexpectedly Thursday.
Born on December 3, 1962, in Carbondale, she is the daughter of Helen J. Lash Gibney, Waymart and the late Joseph P. Gibney. She was a graduate of Western Wayne High School and College Misercordia. She was currently a program analyst for TMG Health, Inc. Dunmore.
She was a member of St. Mary’s Church, Waymart. She enjoyed bowling and was
a member of the APA 8 Ball League, Scranton and the captain of the Bigzy’s Billiard’s Team. Helen was a loving daughter, sister, aunt and niece who will be deeply missed.
She is also survived by a brother: William Gibney and wife Karen, Honesdale;
two sisters: Linda Gibney, Archbald and Mary and husband Joseph Costolnick,
Roswell, GA; nine nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins; four very special
friends Marie Geiser ,Vicky Steiner, Sue Decker and Lynn Warshawski and her beloved golden retriever “Rudy”.

Edward C. Cosklo, Sr., 89, a lifelong resident of R.D. Carbondale passed away
Sunday evening at Wayne Woodlands Manor, Waymart. He is survived by his wife of 70
years, Helen Kohan Cosklo.
Born on September 13, 1920 and raised in Carbondale, he was the last survivor of the late
Andrew & Edith Dawe Cosklo. He was a retired dairy farmer.
He attended the First United Methodist Church, Carbondale. The family would like to
thank the staff of Wayne Woodlands Manor for the kind and compassionate care given to our Dad.
Also surviving is a son Edward Cosklo, Jr and wife Diane, Clifford; a daughter Betty
and her husband Paul Beahan, Carbondale; three grandchildren: Kevin and Michele Cosklo and Floyd Celli; six great grandchildren: Preston Cosklo, Emily, Floyd, Maggie,
Jon and Shana Celli; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by three brothers: Sam and Fred Costello and Andrew Cosklo;
two sisters: Mae Wallis and Beatrice Cowperwaite and a grandson John Celli who passed away on February 18, 2010.
The funeral service will be Thursday at 10 Am in the First United Methodist Church,
15 North Church Street, Carbondale by the Rev. Keith Benjamin, Pastor. Interment will

Jerry T. Port II, 52, of Carbondale died Monday at home. His wife is the former
Joan M . Cain.
Born in Wilmington, DE; he is the son of Drue M. Maltman Port, Dunmore and the late Jerry T. Port. He was a graduate of Abington Heights High School and had been employed Viking Pest control, Allentown.
He was an accomplished bass guitar player, playing in multiple area bands over the years including “ Hometown Boys”, “Alter Ego” and “Storm”. He also enjoyed golfing.
He was a loving husband, father and son.
He is also survived by three daughters: Courtney E. Port, Clarks Summit; Kathrine A. Port and Emily A. Port both of Carbondale; two brothers: Jon Derek Port and wife Linda,
Millington, TN.; Jason Port and wife Sara, Boston, MA; nieces and nephews.

Merle Nathaniel Goodrich, 86, of Greenfield Township passed away Monday morning
at Hospice Community Care, Dunmore surrounded by his loving family. His wife, the former Vina “Blue” White Goodrich died in 2002.
Born at Bethel Court, Carbondale on January 23, 1924 and raised at Hickory Ridge in Greenfield Township; he was the son of the late Ralph and Carrie Bell Goodrich.
He served in the Merchant Marines during WWII, making eleven voyages to European and Mediterranean war zones and one costal voyage. His last voyage was to Cape Town, South Africa. He was employed by M & G Rider Car Carrier until his retirement as a convoy driver.
He was the past president of the Sandy Banks Cemetery Association; a life-time member of the Greenfield Historical Society and a past member of the Greenfield Township Fire Co. He was of the Baptist faith and has served as a trustee and deacon over the years.
He is survived by two daughters and their husbands: Mary and Joseph Brown, Clifford;
Judy and Raymond Short, Greenfield Township; four granddaughters: Jennifer Jelliff; Sarah Brown and companion Joseph Boutureira; Kristie Ludwig and husband Daniel;
Melissa Mest and husband Jason; four great grandsons: Austin and Nathaniel Jelliff and
Jackson and Blake Ludwig; a brother: Bert Goodrich, Dalton and a sister Jane Buck and husband Walter, Bellville, NJ; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother: Robert Goodrich.

Born in Simpson, she was the daughter of the late John & Kathryn Stefanick Lescinsky.
She attended Fell Township Schools and was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Michael’s Parish, Simpson.

Mary Kitik, 87, of Simpson died Friday morning at Osprey Ridge Healthcare Center, Carbondale.
Born in Simpson, she was the daughter of the late Samuel & Amelia Wanko Kitik.
She attended Fell High School, Simpson and had been employed PA. Children’s Dress Co. prior to retirement.
She was a member of St. Basil’s Russian Orthodox Church, Simpson where she was an active member and was involved with housekeeping and decorating of the church.
She is survived by four nieces and a nephew. Mary was preceded in death by two brothers: Samuel Kitti and Nicholas Kitik and a sister Rose Mushala.

Dorothy Marie Golden peacefully died in her home during the early morning hours of Monday, March 29, 2010. She was the wife of John J. “Jack” Golden to whom she was
married for more than 50 years; until his passing in September of 1998.
Born in Scranton on May 9, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Michael & Delia Ratchford Lane. Dorothy was employed as an electronics worker at the former Weston Controls Corporation, Archbald, as well as having devoted a large portion of her time to the management of her home.
Dorothy was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother that always loved to be surrounded by family. Dorothy was a strong and confident person that always provided direction for her family. Dorothy and her late husband were active members in St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Archbald, and in addition, the couple supported many charitable organizations. She was also a member of the Altar & Rosary Society of St. Thomas Church, a member of the Archbald Activities Club and was a former Girl Scout Brownie leader. Dorothy enjoyed traveling as her favorite pastime that allowed her to experience places such as Ireland, Hawaii and Bermuda.
Surviving is a son, Gary, Archbald; two daughters, Carolyn and her husband John J. Richards, Throop, and Suzanne and her husband Peter P. Verkitus, Archbald; a daughter
in law, Frances Golden, Malvern; six grandchildren, John T. and Justyn M. Richards; Paul J. and Christopher M. Verkitus; Melissa and Kara Golden; two great grandchildren, Gavin and Mackenzie Richards, that she loved dearly, nieces and nephews.
She is also preceded in death by a son, Dr. Gregory Golden; two brothers, Ambrose and Thomas Lane and two sisters, Evelyn Dewer and Alice Kelly. It is with mixed emotions of sorrow and joy that her family will take solace in the fact that Dorothy is now reunited with them in the kingdom of God.

employed by the Gentex Corp. for 14 years.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Carbondale. Prior to her disability, she was active in the Carbondale First United Methodist Church, Wednesday
night bowling league and enjoyed taking care of her roses.

She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother who will be deeply missed.

Walter P. Ogozaly, 76, of Simpson died Sunday night at Community Medical Center, Scranton. His wife is the former Mary Ann Shino. The couple had been married for 55 years.
Born in Carbondale, he was the son of the late Walter P. & Blanche Lasavage Ogozaly.
He was a graduate of Benjamin Franklin High School, Carbondale. He served in the Air Force during the Korean War and then for over 20 years in the Navy Reserve.
He owned and operated Ogozaly Trucking, Simpson.
Walter enjoyed shopping and spending time with his grandchildren.

Basil “Fuzzy” Fedak, 87, of Carbondale died Saturday after a brief stay at the Forest City Nursing Home. His wife is the former, Gertrude Tokarchick. The couple would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in November.
Born in Cohes, NY; he was the son of the late Samuel & Anna Pelech Fedak. He was a
Graduate of Fell High School, Simpson and served in the Army Air Corp during WW II
in New Guinea.
In his earlier years, he operated the “Red Top Café” in Simpson and had been employed by several hotels in the Catskill Mountains of New York. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service.
He was a member of St. Basil’s Russian Orthodox Church, Simpson and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #4712, Simpson. He was an avid fisherman, hunter and gardener.
Fuzzy enjoyed the time he spent with his grandchildren.

to her trips to Atlantic City.

Forest City Nursing Home. She was the widow of Ervin A. Chubb, who
died in 1995.
Born in Carbondale, she was the daughter of the late Lewis G. & Nettie
Corey Robinson. She was a graduate of Benjamin Franklin High School,
Carbondale, the Moses Taylor Hospital School of Nursing, Scranton.
She received additional training in maternity & obstetrics at Cornell
Medical Center, New York City and pediatric instruction at Children's
Hospital of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia. She was a nurse in the office of
Dr. John W. Keyes, Carbondale for 25 years.
She was a life member of the Berean Baptist Church, Carbondale; where
she was a former Sunday School Teacher. Mildred was also a past president
of the Carbondale Business & Professional Women's Club.
